D.A.V. PG College Karnal was established in 1974. It has now become one of the premier institutions of Haryana, established to cater to the needs of underprivileged sections of society like rural, semi-urban & urban areas. Gradually, it has carved a niche for itself as one the finest institutions of quality education.

The college is affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.16 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) in the year 2003.
 
There were nearly 272 students in the beginning with just two faculties Arts and Commerce. But now the college has 2700 students (600 girls) on its roll with multi-disciplinary and multi-dimensional faculties with vocational courses.

There are ten undergraduate courses such as B.Com (General), & B.Com (Hons.), B.Com (Computer Application) and B.Com (Tax Procedure & Practice), B.A., BCA, BMC, B.Sc. (Comp. Sc.) B.Sc. (Non-medical) and BBA.

The college has now six Post Graduate Courses like M.A. (English), M.Com, M.A. (Economics), M.Sc (Maths), M.Sc (Geography),& PGDCA.
