Chhatrapati Shahu Institute of Business Education and Research, Kolhapur was popularly known as CSIBER, Kolhapur was established on 1st July 1976 by the renowned Chartered Accountant and the Ex-Dean of Commerce in Shivaji University, Late Prof. (Dr.) A.D. Shinde.

It is one of the premier autonomous institutions established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
 
The college is affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur on 26th May 1995 and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 6th February 1984 under Act, 1956.
 
It is also recognized and approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi on 25th April 2016 for Management courses and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), New Delhi on 22nd December 2010 for Environmental Laboratory courses.
 
It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "A+" Grade (CGPA Score 3.55 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 5th November 2016.

It is an English medium, co-educational institute, providing a regular course which is located in the urban part of Maharashtra played a pioneering role in the field of higher education which improve the academic standards and the Institute opted for Autonomy on 26th May 1995.

CSIBER, Kolhapur is one of the few institutes in Maharashtra catering to the needs of Quality Higher Education in Southern Maharashtra and Northern part of Karnataka by providing professional education, training, and skill development to the youths of the country.

The alumni of the Institute have been serving both in India and abroad in the field of Computer Studies, Management, Commerce, Environment Management, Research, Consultancy, Teaching and entrepreneurship to fulfill “Make in India” policy.

“To be an Institute of First Choice of Students” is being realized by the stakeholders of this institute. The institute is the first in Maharashtra to venture in Academic Autonomy under UGC and Shivaji University umbrella, has achieved higher levels of excellence reflected in NAAC Accreditation, CPE, and reports of the committees which have visited this institute for evaluation of the academic performance.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi on 7th July 2015 in 3rd Phase.

At present, the college also offers three years undergraduate & two years postgraduate courses in Science, Computer, Commerce, & Management streams with optional specializations under the Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It also offers Add-On Diploma & Post Graduate Diploma courses as well.
