Chandernagore College, Hooghly was established in 1981. Its affiliated to University of Burdwan.
Chandernagore College established in 1862 and re-established in 1931, is a Constituent College of the University of Burdwan. Chandernagore College is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 2(f)1956 and Section 12(B) 1972. The distinguished faculty members of this institution hails from the prestigious West Bengal Educational Service Cadre. The College was evaluated by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in 2007 and was awarded ‘B++’ rank. In 2016 the College was re-accredited by NAAC with the same grade but with an improved overall score. At present, the College offers Courses ( both Honours and General) in all major subjects in Language, Social Science, Science and Commerce streams, including Post Graduate Courses in Bengali, Geography and French.
it was re-established in 1931 with I.A. and I.Sc. courses. In 1938, the college was brought under the control of the French Education Directorate and it was again renamed as “College Dupleix”. In 1945, the name of the college section of the “College Dupleix” became “College de Bussy”. In 1948 it was finally re-named “Chandernagore College” by the Free City Government. In 1954, when the city was merged with the State of West Bengal, Chandernagore College was taken over by the Government of West Bengal.
Chandernagore College is one of the fourteen degree colleges in West Bengal run directly by the Higher Education Department, Government of West Bengal. Courses are offered in Science, Humanities and Commerce streams, including post-graduate courses in Geography and Bengali. the members are from the West Bengal Educational Service cadre. It is located on the west bank of river Ganga, upon a picturesque strand built by the erstwhile French rulers of the town.
