Bishop Chulaparambil Memorial Womens College was established in 1955.

Its affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University.

B.C.M. college was founded in 1955 by Mar Thomas Tharayil, Bishop of Kottayam to fulfil the long cherished dream of his predecessor, Mar Alexander Chulaparambil to provide an institution for the higher education of women.

The aim was to raise the cultural standard of the community by educating its women. Professor V .J. Joseph was the first Principal of this college which started with eight members of the teaching staff and one member of the non-teaching staff.

The college was formally inaugurated in 1959 by Cardinal Valerian Gratius. University statute prescribed that a lady principal was to lead a women’s college. The mantle fell on Sr. Fidelis of the Mangalore Carmel Convent.
