Bholanath (B.N.) College, Dhubri was established on 16th August, 1946. It is being the premier seat of learning in the Western part of Assam, had so far earned many a laurels for the state.

The college was established in 1946 mainly from the donations of Lakhipur Estate Zamindar family of Late Bhola Nath Choudhury. Accordingly, the college was named as Bhola Nath College.

B.N. College is located at Dhubri Town, the head quarter of Dhubri District, Assam which shares international border with Bangladesh and inter-state border with Meghalaya and West Bengal. It is situated in between 26003ʹ N latitude and 89097ʹ E longitude and is about 34m above the sea level.

It is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade and recognized by the University Grants Commission under 2 (f) of the UGC Act 1956.

At a meeting held on 26th August, 1944 in Dhubri Govt. High School premises that was presented by Late (Mr) Zahirul Huq Esqr, the then Deputy Commissioner of erstwhile Goalpara district, the feasibility of a college in both Arts and Science stream at Dhubri was discussed.

A resolution was taken in the meeting to establish "Dhubri College" which was attented by Rai Bahadur B. M. Dutta, Rai Bahadur A. U. Ghosh, Khan Bahadur Abdul Mozid Ziaos Shames, Mr. R. K. Bose, Zahaduddin Ahmed, Mucunda Narayan Barua, Mr. S. K. Bose and many others.

The college was later in 1946 named as "Bhola Nath College" after the name of Bhola Nath Choudhuri, father of Mr. Jyotsna Nath Choudhri, Zamindar of Mechpara who donated Rs. 1 lakh and in addition offered the facilities of using the lands and buildings at Dhubri belonging to his mother till such time as it would be possible for the college to shift to its permanent sites and habitation.

Since its inception in 1946, the college has gained and maintained the recognition of best institution of higher education in the entire western part of Assam under Calcutta University and now Gauhati University. Currently, it has 18 full-fledged departments under arts, science and commerce faculties besides vocational training centers and a center of Post Graduate Correspondence School.

At present the college imparts degrees (BA, BSc, BCom or BCA) and certificates (HSSLC) in the following subjects or areas: Assamese, Arabic, Bengali, Education, Economics, English, Hindi, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sanskrit, Botany, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, Commerce and Bachelor of Computer Application.

The college offers degree courses in Arts, Science and Commerce faculty under Gauhati University, Guwahati and Higher Secondary Course of this College i.e. 10+2 level course under Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati.

  • The college has well-equipped with spacious classrooms all modern facilities, required for the students to study here
  • The college is well connected by all means of transportation and can be reached by air from Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati and Bagdogra Airport, Siliguri, West Bengal. New Bongaigaon (Assam) and New Coochbehar (West Bengal) are the nearby railway stations. Bus service is available from all the stations

  • B. N. College has one Girls’ hostels having four wings, with an accommodation capacity of 80 numbers of seats. There are two boys’ hostels with 52 seat capacity
  • Hostel seats are allotted to the regular students of the college at the time of admission on merit basis. Reservation of seats is as per government rules
  • The college has a fully computerised library with a good number of books (both text and reference) on various subjects to meet the needs of the students as well as that of the teachers. Daily Newspapers and selected journals are also regularly subscribed
  • All science departments of the college and the department of education are well equipped with laboratories. There are facilities for carrying out research in the laboratories of the science departments
  • Students who will study in this college may avail State Merit Scholarship, National Merit Scholarship and scholarship for the students belonging to backward communities. Besides these, there is a Student Aid Fund in the college to provide financial assistance to students coming from economically weaker section of the society
  • The college has outdoor sports facilities such as a large playground with gallery, Volley Ball and Basket Ball courts, Badminton court and other necessary infrastructure for various sports. The students are encouraged to participate in local, regional and national events. The College has also a gymnastic centre with adequate facilities including multi gymnastic facilities
  • The college has a career Counselling and Guidance Cell. Students are given counselling from time to time by different experts
  • The departments of the college arrange for remedial classes for slow learners. The objective is to help the slow learners make progress along with other learners of the classes. The departments, therefore, hold remedial classes as per the need of the learners. Generally, the remedial classes are conducted under UGC scheme
  •  B. N. College, Dhubri has established a Health Care Unit within its campus in 2008. The Unit is at present manned by two health attendants
  • The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to assure the quality of the college
  • The college has established a “Yoga Centre" within the campus to create health awareness among its staff (Teaching and Non-teaching) students and the local people
