Centre for Distance Education (CDE) of Bharathidasan University (BDU), Tiruchirappalli was established in 1992.

Its affiliated to Bharathidasan University.

mainly to cater to the students of the University area for those who could not enter the regular colleges for higher studies.

Subsequently, the area of Centre for Distance Education was extended to cover all the four Southern States and Union Territory viz., Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Now many study centres of CDE have been established all over India and abroad.

The Centre for Distance Education offers as many as 60 programs including 18 UG, 21 PG, 13 Diploma programs and 8 Professional programs in selected disciplines.

MCA, MBA, Diploma and B.Sc Degree in Animation programs are the most sought after Courses.

The syllabi for the programs offered through the CDE are the same as for the programs offered in the colleges affiliated to the University.
