About Berhampore College

Berhampore College (BC), Baharampur was established in 1963. Its affiliated to Kalyani University.

Berhamporen College (So re-named in 1975) was established (2nd August, 1963) initially as Raja Krishnath College of Commerce to cater Commence Education to the students of Murshidabad in particular and the students of adjoining districts in general. In 1971, then college authority felt that Arts Stream was to be introduced to cope with the increasing demands of the students (Who were mostly first generation learners) as well as the guardians. As a result some Arts subjects were introduced with necessary approval from the University of Calcutta and the Government of West Bengal. At first only pass subjects of Arts were approved. The introduction of Arts ushered in a new era in the histroy of development of the COllege. From then on Berhampore College started functioning as a full fledged college of Arts and Commerce.

In 1971 the college authorities introduced Arts stream to cope with the increasing demands of the students, many of whom are first generation learners. There after the college was renamed as Berhampore College in 1975. Before that the college was known as Raja Krishnanath College of Commerce. The College was recognized by the U.G.C. under 2f and 12 (B) in 1997.

The main aim of the college is to produce worthy members of the society who will be physically fit, mentally alert, socially responsible, and free from all kinds of superstition, class and caste conflicts.

The college emphasizes to produce useful citizens those who will spread light of knowledge to remove darkness from the society. With this aim in view, the college started various courses to spread higher education in a backward region of the state.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES

In the light of the vision and mission statement our aims and objectives are as follows:

The college aims at the overall development of the locality and its adjoining areas directly through education and indirectly through participation in various socio-economic, cultural and welfare activities.

The teaching and learning processes are carefully designed to ensure the attainment of the following objectives:

  • To provide qualitative and fruitful teaching and to prepare the students for higher education.
  • To provide required general forms of education for employment and self-employment to the students and the unemployed local youth.
  • To provide remedial to the students
  • To develop personality, quality of leadership and good citizenship in students.
  • To render all kinds of assistance to the poor students.
  • To inculcate ethical and moral values.
  • To enhance creative skills.
  • To protect, preserve and judiciously use the resources of the earth for the welfare of all.
  • To think creatively and courageously face the challenges of life.
  • To love their neighbor, irrespective of status, caste, and creed, and live in peace and harmony.
  • To respect the rights of every individual.
  • To be loyal to their country, prepare themselves to take leadership roles for the good of the country and of the society.
