Barasat College, Kolkata was established in 1972. Its affiliated to University of Calcutta, Kolkata.

Barasat College, formerly Barasat Evening College, started functioning in the year 1972 in a rented premises with a small number of students, and with only the Commerce Stream. With sacrifices and inspiration from some persons interested in education and with active services from teaching and non-teaching staff, the College has reached the present dimension wherein about 2700 students are receiving instructions in higher education in three streams Arts, Science and Commerce, the Arts stream and Science stream being introduced with effect from 1986 and 2004 respectively.

Now Barasat College is the pride of the people of Barasat and their surroundings as a good academic institution.

Barsasat College aims to make their Institute an Institute of excellence.

The objective of Barsasat College is to provide, Life Centric and Job Oriented quality higher education through a modern multi-faculty college wherein the students can be well taught and trained to become partners in the socio economic development of the country and their target is to occupy an important site in the educational map of the West Bengal.

The College is affiliated to the West Bengal State University, Barasat. Barsasat College is also a recognized Study Centre of under the Distance Education Programme of Rabindra Bharati University.

VISION

The Advent of globalization and its emergent issues demand serious attention of the policy makers and intellectuals. Competition has become keen. In order to meet the ever growing demand of quality education and accept global challenges the college has to maintain high standard of education. I believe that in spite of having limited resources, the college with the help of efficient and dedicated faculties and other supporting staff continue to meet the demand of the students who come from different strata of the society and require constant support and guidance to finally move towards excellence, from darness to light.

MISSION

With the mission of spreading education among the poor and struggling sector of the society, Barasat College started its journey in the year of 1972. The demographic pattern of the backward district North 24 Parganass was also given due weightage at the time of establishment of the college. The college has overcome a large part of its basic infrastructural problems by recruiting new full time teachers and the expansion of the building in recent years.
