Barama College, Barma was established on 5th February, 1971. It is situated at a distance of 85 km away from the alma mater Gauhati University (GU) and 35 km away to the north of the foothill of Bhutan.

The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B+" Grade in 2005.

The co-educational institution had started its glorious journey of imparting education with one year pre- university programme in Arts at Barama High School premises.

The college provides Major Courses in both Arts and Science and Master Degree Courses through Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL) under Gauhati University, Guwahati and Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU), Guwahati.

A co-educational institution, it started initially with one year pre-university program in Arts. Two years later I.e. in 1973 the College was shifted to its present permanent site and Bachelor of Arts program was introduce to synchronize the development of the stream.

Barama College came under deficit system in 1978 and now is managed by Governing Body and the college opened science programme in 1992 and it initiates the Bachelor of Science in the year 1994. It was in the year 2013, the Science Stream of the college was provincialised in 2013 under Assam Venture Educational Institute (Provincialisation of Services) Act 2011 and amended 2012.

To plan for action to achieve the pre-determined objective of developing the college as a premier institution of higher education and upgrading it to the status of a full fledged post-graduate college

The colleges has well-equipped with modern facilities and provides all the facilities required for the students to study here

The college provides library facilities of the Open Access nature, allowing students and employees / readers to use the library book for the purpose of study

The library is equipped with nearly thirty one thousand books including reference books, valuable journals and daily news papers

Hostel facilities with limited seats are avaialable inside the college campus and seats are alloted at the time of admission on merit basis and necessity

College campus has separate playground for outdoor games and there is also Girls Common Room with different indoor games facilities. The indoor stadium is also there and different types of indoor games are practised by the students regularly

The college canteen provides refreshments for the staff and students at a reasonable rate with moderate atmosphere

Purified drinking water facility is available for all in the college
