Banki College (Autonomous), Banki (Dist. Cuttack) was established in 1961 and founded by Dr. Jogesh Chadra Rout the freedom fighter, Ex-Minister Orissa, pioneer of the Co-operative Movement in Orissa, eminent educationalist.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) under Act, 1956.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B++" Grade (in 1st Cycle) on 10th February 2007.

It has the largest space amongst all universities in Bhubaneswar and is also the most centrally located one. It has one of the highest numbers of educational departments in India and is also the state largest in this respect.

It is a co-educational college, providing a regular course which is located in an urban part of a Cuttuck played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

The college which came into being in 1961 has played a leading and innovative role in furthering the cause of higher education in the state. Right from the trying but pioneering early days of the 1960s this tiny fledgling of a college ushered in to take up the mighty task of education against all possible odds and has been in the forefront of educational advance since then.

The average class size consists of 16/48 students in the Honors Programme for three years and there is also one year P.G. Diploma course in Computer Application, and a 6 months DCA programme and a 3 months Visual Basic, C++ Computer Course.

From 2006 Academic session the college opened new honors courses in Home Science, Sociology, Philosophy, Biotechnology and Geography. From 2007-08 it is proposed to impart honors in Computer Science and Industrial Fish and Fishery, P.G. in Fishery, Environmental Science, Sanskrit and Education & Diploma in Food Processing & Preservation, Clinical Pathology & Customer Relationship Management from this session. The college is privileged for providing additional special teachings in areas like UGS Sponsored Vocational Courses, Career Oriented Courses.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college was also recognized & conferred the status as “College with Potential for Excellence (CPE)" by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, and Commerce streams with various specializations and offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts stream with various specializations under Utkal University, Bhubaneswar.

It also offers Diploma, Certificates & Self-financing courses. Students should have to choose one honor (core) subject with two or more as subsidiary (elective) subjects for the specific undergraduate streams.

The college also has a Contact Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi to offer courses through distance mode.
