B.J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad was established in 1871. Its affiliated to Gujarat University.

Ahmedabad Medical School was created in 1871 and it became affiliated with the Civil Hospital in the city of Ahmedabad. The School and humble beginning, stating with 14 students who pursued hospital assistant training. IN 1879, Sir Byramjee Jeejeebhoy donated Rs. 20,000/- and the school was renamed after him as B.J. Medical School. The school grew and became affiliated with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Bombay in 1917. By 1946, the school obtained affiliation with Bombay University and then achieved higher status for itself to become B.J. Medical College, providing diplomas for L.C.P.S. In 1951, the college was affiliated to Gujarat University for its undergraduate courses. The postgraduate courses will affiliated to the Gujarat University in 1956. The Gujarat University took over the school, which today flourishes with other allied medial and paramedical institutions, including:

• M.P. Shah Cancer Research Institute.
• TB Demonstration and Training Centre.
• Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre.
• U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology.

The B.J. Medical College (BJMC), Ahmedabad is one of the largest sources of medically qualified manpower in the country. The College is the centre of the admission of MBBS students in the entire Gujarat State. Each year, some 250 students are admitted to the college receiving the best medical training. The college admists its students through an entrance examination conducted in India. I. The school offers Postgraduate M.D. Courses in 15 brnaches of medicine, and M.S. Coures in five branches of surgery, super speciality courses of D.M. in three branches. M.Ch. in four branhces, postgraduate diploma courses in 10 branches, and many other medical degrees for non-medical persons. It is a center of the National Board of Medical Examinations for various subjects. The School has made notable contributions in studies with the Indian Council of Medical Research. The World Health Organizations (W.H.O) has recognized the college for its innovation in integrated teaching and training programs in child health services and universal immunization.

The alumni of the college is spread all over the world, providing premiere medical care. Apart from offering the above mentioned courses to the students, the B.J. Medical College (BJMC) and Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad also provides some other facilities to the people of Gujarat. There are some other institutions situated within the premises of the college like,
