Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities (Divyangjan), Mumbai is an Autonomous Organisation was established on 9th August 1983 and managed under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Govt. of India, New Delhi.
It is one of the premier institute established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The institute has been awarded a certificate of ISO 9001:2008 Certification.
It is Regional Centres of the Institute has been established at Kolkata in 1984, New Delhi in 1986, Secunderabad in 1986 and Bhubaneshwar in 1986 in association with Government of Orissa. These are centres aimed at meeting the local and regional needs in terms of manpower development and services.
The District Disability Rehabilitation Centre (DDRCs) under Gramin Punarvasan Yojana (GPY) a programme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India was started in 2000. The objective of the programme is to provide total rehabilitation to persons with sensory (hearing and vision), physical and mental disabilities.
Under this programme, 24 DDRCs were allotted to AYJNISHD(D). All the 24 DDRCs, on completion of successful establishment and running for three years, are handed over to State Governments/District Administration/NGO.
Composite Regional Center (CRC), Bhopal is a service model initiated by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India, established in 2000. The Center is functioning under the administrative control of AYJNIHH since February 2006.
A one more CRC at Ahmedabad, Gujarat was established on 16th August 2011 and this CRC also functioning under the administrative control of AYJNISHD(D).
The institute offers various kind of activities and services for the disabled students like Manpower Development Clinical Services & Charges, Research & Publications, Educational Services, Outreach & Extension Services, Socio-Economic Rehabilitation, Information & Documentation, Disability Information Line, Material Development & Distribution.
Also apart from these services, the institute offers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
The institute had received many awards and accolades at a city, state and national level for their educational advancements also received the numbers of achievements awards in the field of sports and curricular activities.
