AWH Special College, Calicut (Dist. Kozhikode) was established in 1996 by the Association for Welfare of the Handicapped.

It is one of the prestigious institutions of higher learning established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with University of Calicut, Malappuram & Kerala University of Health Sciences, Thrissur and it is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), New Delhi.

It is a co-educational college, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in a rural part of a Boudh played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

It is proud to declare that this college plays a significant role in the higher education of northern Kerala State and is the pioneer institution in the educational field of physiotherapy, genetics, audiology and speech-language pathology.

Genetics is a newly emerging field of science with tremendous potential in the field of management of genetic diseases, syndromes, deformities, and health in general.

Therefore it opens a wide horizon of research scope. B.Sc Genetics is offered only in AWH in the state. The college offers undergraduate and post-graduate programmes in Physiotherapy and Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology.

The college has other undergraduate B.Sc Programmes in Computer Science, Electronics, and Geology. They also provide PG programme in Social Work. All our courses are sanctioned by the Government of Kerala.

Mission:

The college committed to educating self-motivated academicians, geneticists, technical experts, scientists, social workers and healthcare professionals who are dedicated to serving the Indian and international community and also are capable of facilitating rehabilitation of people with all kinds of disabilities. It also envisions their geneticists to be good genetic counselors

Goals & Objectives:

To foster student’s curiosity and inquisitiveness and to help them become self-directed learners
To prepare students for a lifelong commitment to other persons, their communities, and the country
To provide students of the relevant programmes with the basic science and clinical knowledge required for the study and practice of physical therapy audiology and speech-language pathology and to train them as efficient physical therapists, audiologists and speech pathologists
To prepare graduates in genetics capable of serving in fields of pharmaceuticals, food security and white and blue revolutions and also to make them capable of addressing problems related to genetic diseases
To qualify them for higher studies in genomics, proteomics, and genetics itself and to help them become genetic counselors
To provide students of geology with basic skills in the management of resources like energy ground and surface waters and management of land and environment hazards etc. and to generate manpower in these fields
To make them familiar with ever-changing computer technology and to prepare skilled persons in electronic industry
To prepare postgraduates for a career in social work

The clinical laboratory is well equipped to conduct biological and hematological investigations. Cadavers are provided for anatomy dissection. Good facilities are offered for physiotherapy to enable the students for developing skills in basic exercises. Electrotherapy and Exercise therapy labs are fully equipped with Laser, SWD, Ultrasound, Treadmill, IFT, TENS, Tilt table etc.
The college has taken up the responsibility of imparting necessary, effective and practical education to the students so that they can reach great heights and attain maximum achievements in their life
The college runs a canteen inside the campus where staff and students can have meals and snacks prepared in a hygienic manner and at an affordable cost
Internet & Wi-Fi facilities may be availed by the students and teachers as per their needs
Transportation facility is available for the students
The college also has a hostel with providing all the facilities, security and good atmosphere, best suited for studies of the boys & girls coming from far-off places
The department is running two separate Physiotherapy outpatient units one for adults and the other for Pediatric patients both under the supervision of well qualified and experienced staffs. An average 80 patients enroll every day with various complaints
The college has a large playground with well-equipment for different sports
A hospital is available on the campus for routine checkup for public, students as well as staff with state of art facilities
State Government and Central Government offers a number of scholarships to the meritorious students and the students belonging to SC / ST / OBC
A special complaint cell (Sexual Harassment Cell) has been formed for the female students in the college. Students can directly complain orally or by written application to the head of the cell. Apart from this, Ragging is strictly prohibited on the college campus
The institution has provided ICT facilities like computers, projectors, audio-visual gadgets, scanners and printers to the departments and also other aids and a huge number of availability of books for effective delivery of curriculum and for inculcating the knowledge of the subject
To sharpen the skill of students and their personality development, various curricular and extra-curricular activities are the regular features of the institution
The college also organizes workshops, seminars, and conferences for improving teaching skills and methodology
The college consists Women Cell to help female students. This cell helps and guides girls to sort out from their personal problem and avoid them from any harassment
