Avila College of Education, Edakochi (Dist. Ernakulam) was established on 2nd June 1995 by Rt. Rev. Dr. Joseph Kureethara, the late Bishop of Cochin.
It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.
The college is affiliated with Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam [UO No. Ac.A1/1/Affl./94-95 dated 30th September 1994] and it is recognized and approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru [Order No. F-K1-Sec./EX-42/SRO/NCTE/2000-1640 dated 21st August 2000 & Govt. of Kerala [G.O. No. 7531/B3/94/HE, dated 26th September 1994].
It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.58 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 16th September 2011.
It is co-educational minority institute, providing a regular course which is located in the semi-urban part of the Edakochi played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.
The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions has granted the college Minority Status as per F. No. 329/2011.
The college is situated at Edakochi, a suburb of Kochi Corporation in the Ernakulam District in Kerala. It had its humble beginning on 2nd June 1995 with 4 optional subjects (Maths, Physical Science, Natural Science, and Social Science) with the intake of 100 students.
The main aim of the college is determined to provide the quality education to the future teachers. With the correct mix of technology and human touch, the college empowers the aspiring teachers to propagate education through the rungs of the society so that they serve the nation while making a satisfying career for themselves.
The college offers two years Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) course for those who have completed their graduation with minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation from recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the Degree level.
But Scheduled Castes (S.C.), Scheduled Tribes (S.T.) & (O.B.C) candidates are to be entitled to a relaxation 5% marks ineligibility for admission.
The college offers two years Master of Education (M.Ed.) course for those who have completed their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) with the minimum aggregate of 50% from any recognized university are eligible to apply for this course.
Students here are admitted who completed their graduation in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) from a recognized university with at least 50% marks in major or in aggregate at the graduation level.
