Asutosh College, Kolkata established in 1916. College is affiliated to University of Calcutta.

Asutosh College, since its inception in July, 1916, has been a leading centre of education in Kolkata. As it enters its hundredth year of existence, let us step back in time and retrace the steps of its evolution from an Intermediate College in South Calcutta to its present position as a premier institute of Undergraduate, Postgraduate Studies and Research, not only of Kolkata, but also of West Bengal and eastern India.

Asutosh college has a rich heritage that contributes to its own culture.

The college was built up under the leadership of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, the famous mathematician, educationist and the then Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta. The college was then known as south suburban college and was housed at a rented premise.The college was renamed after him in 1924. 

The present college building has a premise of forty thousand square feet and more than fifty classrooms which can contain about 4000 students. Twenty-seven subjects are taught as honors/major at the undergraduate level.

In 2002, a post graduation course in Environmental Science was introduced. All the departments have their own libraries and well-organized laboratories for Science departments.

Asutosh College, a pioneer institute of education in West Bengal, was the first college in the state which was accredited by NAAC, in 2002. The college has been accredited by NAAC in the 'A' Grade and awarded a CGPA score of 3.22, and is currently among the top 4 affiliate college of West Bengal.

The renowned mathematician Sir. Asutosh Mukherjee with a deep dream did establish this college. Asutosh College is affiliated underUniversity of Calcutta. The Asutosh College shifted to its current location in 1935. The present college building has a premise of forty thousand square feet and more than fifty classrooms which can contain about 4000 students. Twenty-eight subjects are taught as Honors/Major/Vocational at the Undergraduate level.

In the year 2002, a post graduation course in Environmental Science was introduced.Post graduate courses in Applied Geology,Bengali,Computer and Information Science, Geography, Zoology are introduced in between 20009 and 2014.In 2013 Add-on courses in Hospital waste disposal management,Industrial Chemistry and Travel & tourism introduce. All the departments have their own libraries and well-organized laboratories for Science departments.

Asutosh College, formerly known as South Suburban College, was established on 17th July, 1916, under the visionary leadership of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, one of the pioneers of modern education in India.

A premier learning institute of West Bengal, the college, as of today, has created its niche as a centre of both Undergraduate & Postgraduate studies and research in more than 28 disciplines including some of the emerging areas of recent times.
