Annai Velankanni Engineering College, Karunkal was established in 1987.

The college is owned by the Friends of Kottar and administered by Annai Velankanni college administrative Society, a body registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975 and managed by an elected administrative body consisting of 11 members.

The Management of the college is vested in a committee constituted for that purpose by the Friends of Kottar.
However, the college is open to all, irrespective of religion, caste or community.
The main objective of the college is to make a significant contribution to education, the improvement of which is a primary need of our country.

Vision:

To make significant contribution to develop economically and educationally identified under-developed backward areas.

Mission:

Provide quality education to the local youth/students with emphasis on job oriented courses and other courses relevant to local needs so that they can seek/take up better employment and improve standard of life.
Treat all students equally without any discrimination on the basis of religion, caste and community and mould them to take up the role of future leaders of the country.
Inculcate personal and intellectual integrity in the minds of the students of the College resulting in application of ethical and humanitarian values in life by broad basing education and involving the students in relevant extracurricular activities.
