Alphonsa College, Palai is a women's degree college located in Palai, (Dist. Kottayam) was established in 1964.

It is one of the premier colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone on the part of progress.

The college is affiliated with the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam and it is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 3.00 on a 4 Point Scale in 3rd Cycle) on 8th July 2013.

The fundamental aim of the Alphonsa College is to impart spiritually-oriented and value-based education to young women under circumstances congenial to their all-round development. It encourages the students to aim at excellence not only in academic pursuits but also in every aspect of human endeavor to achieve perfection.

It is a women's college, providing regular courses at primarily the higher secondary and undergraduate levels which are located in a rural part of a Palai played a pioneering role in the field of higher education.

Alphonsa College is a religious minority institution owned and managed by the Catholic Diocese of Pala. The institution is at present run under the efficient stewardship of the Patron, His Excellency Mar Joseph Kallarangattu, Bishop of Pala.

Alphonsa Institute of Computer Studies (AICS), started in 1996, is mainly run for the students in the B.A, B.Sc and Post Graduate Courses in which computer is also a subject or is essential for the purpose of the courses.

The Institute is fully accredited by DOEACC Society to conduct `O` Level Course. It offers other courses like PGDCA, Advanced PGDCA, DCA, DOA, CAC and short-term courses like Ms. Office, DTP, Photoshop, C, C++, Internet & E-mail etc.

The college conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.

The college has awarded as the best college by the affiliating university and also a number of awards in publication, offering scholarship & also awarded by the different society.

The college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, & Commerce streams with optional specializations and offers two years postgraduate courses in Arts & Science stream with various specializations under the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. It also offers Vocational & Add-On Certificate courses.
