Al-Ameen College, Edathala (Dist. Ernakulam) was established on 17th November 1981 by Al-Ameen Education Trust (R), Kochi which was established in 1979.
The trust is part of the Al-Ameen Movement started in Bangalore by a group of dedicated and inspired thinkers who wished to uplift the cause of education among the backward sections.
It is one of the premier minority educational colleges established to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.
The college was initially affiliated with the University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. Subsequently, on the formation of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam in 1983, the affiliation of this college was permanently shifted to this university in 2004.
The college is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) & 12(B) on 17th January 2006 under Act, 1956 and it is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade (CGPA Score 2.81 on a 4 Point Scale in 1st Cycle) on 3rd March 2015.
Al-Ameen College was declared as a Minority Educational Institution by the Government of India in the year of 2008. The campus prevails in a serene atmosphere, comprising of 25 acres in the rural area of Edathala.
The college also conferred the status of grant-in-aid college that the fees and all the facilities for the students are fixed by the government. The student's admission is done as per the Admission Criteria prescribed by the affiliating university.
Al-Ameen College has risen from its humble beginnings as a junior college in 1981 to the current status of a fully fledged Post Graduate institution that provides twelve UG programmes, three PG programmes and two UGC sponsored Add-on courses, namely Holistic yoga Therapy and Office Management with Tally Accounting.
The college practices the noble mission and vision of providing quality education based on personality development, character formation and communal harmony as envisaged by its founders.
The college was elevated to the status of a degree College by the affiliation of the first aided degree course, B.Com Taxation in the year of 1991.
Subsequently, more aided degree courses, B.Sc Petrochemicals, B.A Economics ( Model II) and B.Sc Physics ( Model II) were started in 1995,1998 and 2000 respectively.
The college was raised to the level of a Post Graduate College with the starting of M.Com Degree course under the aided stream in the year of 2001. M.Sc Mathematics was started in the year of 2013 under the aided stream. Self-financing programmes were started in the Institution by the introduction of B.Sc Bio-Technology and B.Sc MLT in the year of 2003.
B.Sc MLT, a paramedical course, was re-affiliated to Kerala University of Health Science (KUHAS), Thrissur in the year 2012. It no longer offered by the Institution as a programme of study. BTS (Bachelor of Tourism Studies) and B.A Communicative English were started in the year of 2009 under the self-financing stream.
At present, the college offers three years undergraduate courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, & Management streams with various specializations and offers two years postgraduate courses Commerce & Physics streams with some popular specializations. It also offers Add-On Certificate courses.
