Akkamahadevi Women’s University, Vijayapura was formerly known as Karnataka State Women's University (KSWU), Vijayapura established in 2003, is the only Women’s University in Karnataka dedicated exclusively for women's education.

It was recognized under 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act (University Grant Commission) and accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

It is one of the premier institutions established under the management of Kanara Welfare Trust (Reg.) to impart & provide in the field of higher education for the deserving candidates and prove to be a milestone in the part of progress.

Vision and Mission:

To provide quality education and impart professional and vocational skills to enable women to be self-reliant and meet the challenges of the changing socio-economic needs
The mission of the university is to ensure holistic education treasuring cultural heritage, core values of personal integrity, professional skills, awareness about the socio-economic, scientific and cultural developments at all levels in order to enable women to lead personally and professionally fulfilling lives
