Agragati Primary Teachers Training Institute (APTTI), Howrah was established in 2004. It is well known institution offering two-year Diploma in Education programme. The institution was established to deliver well trained primary teachers in the state, for the upliftment of education scenario of the society. Agargati Primary Teachers Training Institute is affiliated to West Bengal Board of Primary Education and approved by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The institution has state-of-the-art infrastructure for the students. The college is affiliated to the Calcutta University. It is the oldest of the modern universities in India.

It was established in 1857 during the administration of Lord Canning, the Governor General of India. It is the only university in India which produced four Nobel laureates and has ranked consistently amongst the first five hundred universities in the world. It was the first modern university in the Indian subcontinent. It has been declared as a "Five Star University" and a "Centre with Potential for Excellence" by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The Times Education Supplement of London ranked the University of Calcutta as the 39th best university in the world, in the Arts & Humanities category in 2005.

Agragati is a non-profit making society founded in 1978 and was registered in 1979 under West Bengal Societies Act of 1961 (Registration no. S/26356 dated 19.10.1979). From its modest beginning in a few villages at Amta, West Bengal it has extended its project area to Orissa and Jharkhand. Agragati aims at achieving sustainable development through empowerment and capacity building of the rural poor particularly, the SC, ST and woman.

Education is one of its major thrusts point since beginning. Swami Vivekananda perceived - 'Education is the Manifestation of Perfection already in man' and to Mahatma Gandhi education means - 'An all round development of child Body, Mind and Spirit'.

Agragati made its first footmark in the field of education by establishing the first English medium primary school in Amta area in the name & style of New Dawn K.G. Primary School in the year 1988 for imparting quality primary education to the rural children.

In managing the primary school Agragati felt the necessity of methodically trained teacher for the all-round development of body, mind and spirit of primary students.

Hence, an Organising Committee was formed in a General Body Meeting and Agragati Primary Teachers' Training Institution was established in the year, 2004 with the recognition of the West Bengal Board of Primary Education.

Subsequently, to follow uniform curriculum Agragati PTTI applied and got recognition of NCTE on July 14, 2009.
