About Abhayapuri College

Abhayapuri College, Abhayapuri was established on 13th August, 1955. It is located in the heart of Abhayapuri town, the headquarters of North Salmara Sub-division, is one of the oldest college in Assam.
 
The college is affiliated to Gauhati University, Guwahati and some of the professional courses are affiliated to Krishna Kanta Handique State Open University (KKHSOU), Guwahati and Intermediate / Higher Secondary Courses are affiliated to Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC), Guwahati.

It is accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade.

The name Abhayapuri itself came after the name of Ranee Abhayeswari, the Queen of the Bijni Raj Estate. Abhayapuri, surrounded by isolated hillocks, is a small town and called "Devadaru Nagaree" because of the scenic beauty of the Decodar trees standing majesticallyon both the sides of the main road. It is well known for its calm and clean environment as well as natural beauty. Started as a single faculty Arts college.

The college celebrated its Golden Jubilee during August to October, 2005; and the college has become an institution of excellence for higher learning by this time. At present, the hallmarks of the college are regular classes, good results, periodic evaluation, strict discipline and friendly relationship of the teachers and students.

Mission and Vision:

  • The College carries the mission of imparting higher education to the students coming from  surrounding backward areas in order to make them good and responsible citizens of the country
  • The college in its stride for higher education , has a vision for expanding its field of imparting higher education to make the students fit for modern competitive world

Objectives:

  • To impart higher education of enhanced quality enabling the students for facing the growing challenges in a highly competitive world through a host of dedicated teachers
  • To mentally prepare the students for appearing boldly in the struggles of life
  • To create scientific temperament and humanitarian values smong the students
  • To create awareness and understanding regarding social problems among the students through Extension Education
  • To develop overallpersonality of the students by encouraging them to participate in games, sports and other co-curricular activities

Intermediate courses at Abhayapuri College, Abhayapuri:

(In Arts Faculty) English (compulsory); M.

I. L. (Options:Assamese, Alternative English); Economics; Political Science; History; Education; Logic & Philosophy; Arabic, Advance Assamese, Geography and Mathematics.

(In Science Faculty) English (compulsory) *M. I. L. (Options: Assamese, Alternative English), Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Geography. NB: Apart from English & MIL, students have to select 3 or 4 subjects in each faculty.

 

  • The college has been well-equipped with all modern facilities
  • Some seats are reserved for the candidates belonging to SC/ ST / OBC / MOBC / Physically handicapped categories, as per Govt rules
  • Total 20 seats are reserved for the students showing special performance in Games & Sports, NCC and other Co-Curricular activities and these are filled up under the supervision of the Principal and G.B. President
  • The college has separate Boys and Girls Hostel with limted number of seats
  • Abhayapuri college library has well sacked collection of about 22000 number of books, including text books, reference books, Encyclopaedia
  • There are separate Reading Rooms for the teachers and Students. Internet and email facilities are also available alongwith photostat and lamination services at a reasonable rate in the Central Library
  • The well catered college canteen provides necessary light refreshment and lunch etc for both staff and students at a reasonable rate
