Abbas Khan College for Women, Bengaluru Urban was also known as Abbas Khan Degree College for Women, Bengaluru Urban was established on 1st July 1977.

It is one of the pioneer institutions in the group of institutions run by Central Muslim Association of Karnataka.

The college is affiliated to Banglore University, Bengaluru and recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 2(f) on 4th July 1994 & 12(B) on 15th June 1994 under Act, 1956.

It is re-accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with "B" Grade - (CGPA Score 2.92 on a 4 Point Scale in 2nd Cycle) on 30th November 2011.

From 1977 to 1990, the Institution was functioning in a small portion of the premises of C.M.A along with other Institutions. The committed management constructed a separate independent building for the college. In 1990, the College was shifted to present campus, which is in the center of the city and accessible to the students from all corners.

During its 40 years of purposeful existence, has attained its motto of educating women of all categories including Backward Classes, SC/ST, G.M & Muslim Women in particular.

Institution feels proud and content because it has strived from day one to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of young women. The prime objective of the institution is to enhance the knowledge, skill & values to mold & empower them to become useful citizens of the society.

The college offers B.A, B.Sc(P.M.C), B.B.A & B.Com at the Undergraduate level and M.Com & M.A-Economics at Postgraduate level under the affiliating university.

Apart from these, the college also offers one-year Diploma in Communicative English approved by College Development Council and Bangalore University which helps in Job Placements. It also offers some Certificate & Add-On courses.
