Odia, pronounced formerly rendered Oriya is an Indo-Aryan language spoken in the Indian state of Odisha. It is the official language in Odisha, where native speakers make up 82% of the population, and it is also spoken in parts of West Bengal, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Oriya is one of the many official languages of India; Those whose mother tongue it is have a responsibility to learn to read and write it, and those who live in the regions where it is widely spoken have an advantage in learning the native tongue. Oriya is one of the optional language subjects in the Andhra Pradesh State Education System.
