Top 10 Private or Deemed Universities In India

By Staff

The British rule in India was one that had completely destroyed our original education system. In ancient India, universities like Nalanda and Kashi were centres of excellence. Following independence, the Indian government decided to revive all of that. What started with the initial setting up of IITs and NITs soon led the country to produce the greatest number of engineering graduates in a global scene.

With private colleges and universities mushrooming along the lengths and breaths of the nation, a need was felt for proper accreditation of the same. That was when the Universities Grants Commission (UGC) was established. The UGC declares an institution of higher learning to be a deemed university if and only if it feels that the said college is working academically and setting very high standards in a specific area of study.

As is evident, this status cannot be given to an institution that is already a university. Although all the deemed universities are centres of excellence in themselves, there are some deemed universities which are better than the rest. Here is a list of the top 10 private/deemed universities of the country.
