Study To Become A Chiropractic Practitioner

How To Become Chiropractic Practitioner
Chiropractic as a complementary medicine has been in the spotlight in the recent years with more and more people around the world experiencing its long-lasting benefits. According to Macquarie University, Australia, “Chiropractic is now the third largest healing profession today.”

There are very few qualified practitioners in India and fewer institutions offering education and training in Chiropractic. If an Indian student is keen to study the Chiropractic science and acquire a degree in the same, he needs to go abroad.

How chiropractic works:
At a glance, this is how chiropractic works: practitioners engage in spinal adjustment and manipulation as well as other measures to treat abnormalities of structure and function, and to assist the natural recuperative powers of the body.

What to study:

To become a qualified practitioner, you can either complete a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and then go in for a Master of Chiropractic, or study a science course at the undergraduate level, then take up a Master’s degree in chiropractic. Typical curriculum includes subjects such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, radiology, philosophy, research, and chiropractic technique and business practice. This broad foundation in the basic and clinical sciences help you understand the scientific rationale for chiropractic and its relationship to human physiology and health.

Where to study:
It is important that you choose a good college where theory is complemented with the actual application; one that is accredited and well-known in the field of chiropractic studies.

The International Chiropractic Association offers affiliation and accreditation to institutions in the USA and also offers scholarships to deserving students. A few of these accredited institutions affiliated to the ICA are: Cleveland Chiropractic College Life University, College of Chiropractic, and Palmer College of Chiropractic.

Universities such as Macquarie University and Murdoch University offer undergraduate, postgraduate and research studies in Chiropractic. Their courses are internationally recognised and are supported by research opportunities, state-of-the-art facilities such as teaching labs and clinics to give hands-on training for their students.

The Chiropractic’s Association of Australia has laid down regulations and educational requirements for students who want to become registered Chiropractors in Australia.

According to the Indian Association of Chiropractic Doctors, “Chiropractic has been one of the most rigorously assessed health care fields. In addition to many scientific trials, there have been at least six formal government inquiries into chiropractic worldwide over the past 25 years. The value of chiropractic care continues to prove itself through these tests with high marks for effectiveness, safety and cost efficiency and extremely high patient satisfaction ratings.”
