Every year on January 15, India celebrates Indian Army Day. This year, India will be celebrating the 75th Indian Army Day in Bengaluru.
Indian Army Day is celebrated in honor of Field Marshal Kodandera Madappa Cariappa, the First Army Chief of India.

In 1949, the title was transferred from General Francis Roy Butcher, the last British Army Chief, to Field Marshal KM Cariappa.
Field Marshal KM Cariappa propagated the slogan "Jai Hind," which means "Victory of India."

Under Cariappa’s leadership, Indian troops were on the Western Front during the 1947 war between India and Pakistan.
The day is celebrated in the form of parades and other military shows in the national capital, New Delhi, as well as in all headquarters.
The Indian Army organizes these events in schools and colleges, in remote villages, etc.
The objective of this day is to salute our strong and brave soldiers for protecting our lives and our motherland.
