West Bengal's Malda and Murshidabad districts had unfurled the Pakistani flag on the very first Independence Day.
Nobody knew on the Aug 15, 1947 if their home lies in India or Pakistan as boundary between India and Pakistan was declared on Aug 17 – 2 days after the independence.
These Muslim majority districts, bordering the then East Pakistan, were hoping to be a part of Islamic state of Pakistan.
Due to many geographic, infrastructural, and contiguity considerations: many Muslim dominated areas were given to India while Hindu dominated Khulna, Karachi, and Lahore went to Pakistan.
Cyril Radcliffe was the man who drew the lines on map partitioning United India into India and Pakistan.
About 20 lakhs people died, and 1.5 crores had to migrate: due to partition.
