What is Pulikali That Marks the End of Onam in Thrissur?
Onam is one of the major festivities of Kerala.
It is a long 4-day celebration that ends with the ‘Pulikali’.

‘Pulikali’ literally means, Tiger Dance.
It is a recreational folk art from the state of Kerala.
On the 4th day of Onam, artists perform the Tiger Dance which revolves around the theme of Tiger Hunting.
On the fourth day of Onam, Pulikkali troupes from throughout the district congregate in Thrissur to put on the best performance.
Pulikali has a history of more than 200 years.
It was allegedly first introduced by the then-Maharaja of Cochin, Maharaja Rama Varma Sakthan Thampuran.
