The Ministry of Education has set the entry age for Class 1 at six years old for all states and Union Territories.

The fact that many schools in India accept children as young as 2.5 years old does not imply that your child is prepared for school at that age.

According to a Stanford University study, parents whose children entered kindergarten at age 6 (rather than 5) had children who performed better academically.

Education is one of the concurrent rights listed in the Constitution, and most schools are governed by the states or UTs.

As a result, all the states and UTs were asked for feedback regarding the age of entry for various classes in schools.

By the time they were 7 and 11 years old, the children had higher exam scores and improved self-control.

In light of their psychological and emotional health, the Supreme Court had stated last year that young children shouldn't be sent to school.

In the previous year, the government informed the Lok Sabha that whereas 14 states/UTs admitted pupils to class 1 at age 5, 22 states admitted children at age 6 or older.

According to the new National Education Policy (NEP), all children (between the ages of 3 and 8) must participate in five years of educational opportunities at the foundational period, which includes three years of preschool education before Classes 1 and 2.

The Ministry has instructed state governments and UT administrations to align their admissions ages with the recommendation and admit children to class 1 at the age of six and older.
