UPSC: Coaching or Self Study?

Coaching merely helps you, it does not ensure you a rank. Your self study, consistency and the hard work you put in sitting at your study table matters far more than what you do in coaching classes.

Discipline
If you are self disciplined person then you just need to refine your preparation strategy, in this case you can join mentor programs or weekly coaching.
If you are a new person in this field then it is suggested that you take help from coaching institutes. And later you can turn it in to self study mode.
New Aspirant
There are two possibilities- If you are not able to clear UPSC in 4-5 attempts then look out for a mentor. 
And if you know where you are lacking then keep going on with self study.
Veteran
Test Series
You can easily get test series of any institute in market and if you want to know where do you lie in the competition then you need to enroll yourself.
Syllabus, study material, exam paper is same for every aspirant. So where is the gap between coaching and non-coaching aspirants. THINK!
