1. Tagore was a painter and a composer who wrote more than 2,000 songs.

2. Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Literature Prize. Not only first Non-European but he was also the first Asian to do so.

3. Tagore's national anthem is one of three national anthems that Tagore inspired.  "Jana Gana Mana" for India, "Amar Sonar Bangla" for Bangladesh and "Sri Lanka Matha" national anthem of Sri Lanka.

4. He was a friend of Albert Einstein and corresponded with him on topics such as the nature of reality and the meaning of life.

5. Tagore was a prolific writer who authored more than 50 volumes of poetry, fiction, drama, and essays. He was also a translator who translated his own works into English.

6. Rabindranath Tagore received a knighthood in 1915 from King George V of England in recognition of his outstanding contributions to literature.

7. He was a vocal critic of British colonial rule in India and a supporter of Indian independence. He returned his knighthood in protest against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in 1919.

1. When  Rabindranath was 12, his father took him to Santiniketan. After that he  explored the mountains and forests alone while his father was in  Dalhousie.

2. He withdrew from formal schooling when he was 14 years old. The remainder of his education was carried out at home.

3. At the age of 17, he was sent to London for higher studies at University College, London. He returned home suddenly after 18 months without completing his education.

Reason- In London he exposed to British social life and Western music but his heart was still in India. With the impression that human nature was perhaps the same everywhere he returned to India.
