Remembering the “Father of Bhakra Dam”

Here goes a list of interesting facts about Sir Chaudhary Chhotu Ram, commonly considered the “Father of Bhakra Dam”:
Prachi Kiran
Born on November 24, 1881, in the village of Garhi Sampla, Rohtak, Sir Chhotu Ram was accorded knighthood in 1937.
Sir Chhotu Ram was a prominent politician in British India’s Punjab Province, an ideologue of the peasants of pre-Independent India.
He championed the interest of oppressed peasants of the Indian Sub-continent.
He popularly came to be known as " Deen Bandhu".
He was also the originator of the concept of compensating the farmer for at least the expenses incurred by him on farming, the concept has now evolved into ‘Minimum Support Price’ (MSP)
Sir Chaudhary Chhotu Ram conceived of the Bhakra Dam way back in 1923, to rid the farmers of the so-called economic plague spots of the erstwhile Punjab state.
On 9th January 1945, he headed towards the Heavenly abode.
