Onam is a festival of Kerala, which is an important component of India's rich cultural legacy. It is a harvest festival that commemorates the return of the fabled King Mahabali.
Let’s discuss about the Onam Festival Celebration in Kerala
Every year, Onam happens between August and September and is known as Kerala's National Festival.
The Onam festival is held at the start of Chingam, the first month of the Malayalam calendar. It lasts to 10 days.
There are numerous festivals and events such as Onam Pookalam and others. Cultural activities such as Kummati kali, Pulikali, Atthachamayam, tug of war, and, most notably, the boat race are part of the 10-day Onam festival celebration
Onam is celebrated as Tourism Week and is considered a symbol of Malayalam culture and customs.
Kerala's communities celebrate this to welcome King Mahabali. They think that King Mahabali visits Kerala on this day and bestows blessings on the people. To greet the monarch, they decorate their doorsteps with flowers.
