About Gurudev
Kaviguru Rabindranath Tagore also known as 'the Bard of Bengal' was a Bengali polymath, poet, musician, painter and an outstanding creative artist of the early 20th century.
He was born on May 7, 1861, in Jorashako ThakurBari at the home of Devendranath Tagor in Kolkata. As per the Bengali Calendar his anniversary falls on the 25th day of the month of Baisakh, 'Pochishe Baisakh'.
Being the greatest poet, philosopher, social thinker, revolutionist, music composer, philanthropist and many more, all the works done by him are real milestones.
Nobel prize
He was the first Non-European who was bestowed with the Nobel prize in the field of Literature in 1913 for his renowned collection of poetries called Gitanjali.
Title of Mahatma
The title of Mahatma was given by Gurudev to Mahatma Gandhi in 1915. He was also a leader of Brahma Samaj.
2,230 songs
His mesmerizing collection of 2,230 songs, collectively known as "Rabindra Sangeet" is one of the wonderful gifts given to the world of music.
True Inspiration
Inspired by the works of Kalidas and Shakespeare, he started to write his own literary works fusing the elements of Bengali & European tradition. Nirjharer Swapnabhanga in 1882, was one of his acclaimed poems.
National Anthem
He was the only known person who wrote the National Anthem of two countries; Jan Gan Man- for India and Amar Sonar Bangla for Bangladesh.
His renowned poems are Manasi (1890), Sonar Tari (1894), Gitimalya (1914), and his famous plays are Dakghar (1912), Achalayatan (1912), Muktadhara (1922), Raktakaravi (1926) and novels are Gora (1910), Ghare-Baire (1916) and Yogayog (1929).
