Your first baby step to prepare after 12th is to choose the graduation stream as per your interest and analysis of past 10 years UPSC question papers.
Identify & Choose Graduation Stream Carefully
Know UPSC Syllabus
Take your time and analyse syllabus. Shortlist topics which cover syllabus upto class 12th. Start making notes.
Graduation subject plays a major role in optional subject. Take your graduation subject seriously. Give a test of optional subject on every week to check your progress.
Optional Subject
Join yearly test series which will help you cover topics accordingly. You will get a grip of handling multiple choice question over a period of 6-8 months.

Current Affairs
Read newspaper religiously. Learn trick to make notes of newpaper. Since you have time of 3-4 years of time, do not take shortcut and try to understand the basics.

It is very important to have a mentor who can guide you throughout your UPSC Journey.
