Facts about Savitribai Phule on her Birth Anniversary

Savitribai Phule was born on January 3, 1831 in Satara district of Maharashtra.

Women neither had the right to education nor could they raise their voice against the atrocities being committed on them. In such a time, Savitribai Phule came forward to give strength to women power.
Savitri emerged as the teacher of the country from a society and mainly family, where women were not even remotely concerned with education. In the era when Savitri Bai Phule was dreaming of studying, evils like untouchability, untouchability, discrimination were at its peak.
From the self-reliance of women to their freedom from social injustice, Savitribai and Jyotiba, considered education as an essential means. For this purpose, he not only educated his wife Savitri himself, but also took the responsibility of educating other women as well.
With her untiring efforts, Savitribai started a social revolution by establishing a school in Poona in 1848 without any external financial aid, taking nine girls from different castes.
Teacher Savitribai Phule not only made an unprecedented contribution in the field of education, but also became the first leader of the Indian women's movement by forming 'Mahila Mandal' in 1852.
This Mahila Mandal protested against atrocities against women, child marriage, practice of shaving heads of widows and female illiteracy. She achieved unprecedented success in many movements.
Opposing widow keshavpan, Savitribai got the barbers on strike and motivated them not to do widow keshavpan.
After Jyotiba Phule, it was Savitribai who lit her funeral pyre. Savitri was the first woman in the country to take this revolutionary step. She also started the tradition of widow remarriage and the first widow remarriage was done by December 25, 1873.
She was caught by the plague. On March 10, 1897, indomitable courage, struggle, and strong Savitribai died. She continued to work for the service of humanity till the last moments of her life.
