Elon Musk – An Inspiring Journey of a Business Mogul

On April 25, 2022, Elon Musk the CEO of SpaceX and Tesla acquired social networking giant Twitter for $44 billion making it the biggest acquisition in the tech world. Let’s look at the struggle, failure and emergence of a business magnate.

At age of 10, Musk learned computer programming & sold the code of a BASIC-based video game he created - Blastar at the age 12 to a PC & Office Tech magazine for approximately $500.
Musk, however, had a troubled childhood, as he was bullied throughout and was once hospitalized after a group of boys threw him down the stairs. He graduated from Pretoria Boys High School after attendance at Waterkloof House Preparatory School and Bryanston High School.
Elon attended the University of Pretoria for five months before moving to Canada in June 1989 at the age of 17 working odd jobs at a farm and lumber-mil. A year later, in 1990, he enrolled at Queen's University in Ontario and got transferred to the University of Pennsylvania in 1992.
Musk's Education

Musk held two internships in Silicon Valley during the summer and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts/Science degree and moved to California to enrol for Ph.D at the Stanford University, but dropped out in pursuit of a business career amid Internet Boom.

Business Origins
He co-founded a web software company called Zip2 with his brother Kimbal in 1995 and slept on the couch of a rented office, showered at the YMCA as he couldn’t afford an apartment and shared one computer with his brother.
The start-up grew to success and later was acquired by Compaq for $307 million in February 1999 after Musk’s attempts to become its CEO was thwarted by the board and he had to settle with $22 million for his 7-percent share in the company.

In 1999, Musk co-founded an online banking company called X.com, but was replaced at its CEO but was back on board when X.com was merged with Confinity in 2000 to form PayPal which was bought by eBay in 2002 for $1.5 billion

In 2002, Musk founded SpaceX, an aerospace manufacturing and transport service company and in 2004, he joined electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla Motors, Inc. (now Tesla, Inc.) as chairman and product architect, becoming its CEO in 2008.

In 2015, he co-founded OpenAI, a nonprofit research company that promotes friendly artificial intelligence, and in 2022 he acquired Twitter for $44 billion, setting off one of the biggest deal in the teach word.
Musk's Wealth
Musk’s wealth grew from $2.7 billion in 2013 to $219 billion in 2022 in his drive to revolutionize transportation on Earth through electric car maker Tesla  and in space through rocket producer SpaceX.
