Dr. Zakir Hussain's contributions to the nation

Dr. Zakir Hussain, A prominent name among social reformers, an avid Educationalist and the 3rd President of India left us in grief on May 3, 1969.
Today on the occasion of his 53rd death anniversary let's remember him by knowing some interesting facts about this great son of mother India.

Bharat Ratna
Dr Zakir Hussain who was born on February 8, 1897, in Hyderabad was the 1st Muslim President of India, honored with the highest Civilian award of country, Bharat Ratna in 1963.
President of India
He became the President of India on May 13, 1967 who served for the shortest period of time until his death on May 3, 1969.
Talking about his education after passing his B.A. Honors, due to his Keen interest in Economics, he went to Germany & earned his PhD in Economics from Frederick William University of Berlin.
His education
AMU
At the age of 23 years, in 1920 he was one of the founders of National Muslim University, Aligarh which is now Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi.
Dr. Hussain with his charismatic personality served as the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University for a period of 20 years till 1948 and his tenure as VC of AMU from 1948 to 1956 is Known as the Golden Era of AMU.
As Educationist
Being an educationalist he not only emphasized on study but also his love for urdu literature could be seen from his urdu translations of Plato's Republic, Fredrick List's National system of Economics and Edwin Cannan's Elements of Economics.
In politics
Besides serving as the 3rd and 1st Muslim President he has been served on various prestigious positions such as the Vice President, Governor of Bihar and Member of Parliament etc.
On May 3, 1969 he breathed his last while he was serving as President. He was buried in the Campus of Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.
Grand Museum
A grand museum in Jamia Millia Islamia is set up as an indicator of his greatest contributions and works.
Honour
He has been honored with greatest Civilian awards such as Bharat Ratna and Padm Vibhushan for works done by him.
