CGGE Selection Procedure

The UPSC is conducting a written examination from Jan 19, 2020 & Jun 27th & 28th 2020, for recruitment of CGGE 2020.

The examination will be held in accordance with the rules for the examination published on April 25, 2018, by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Gazette of India.

Selection will be made through Written Examination, Personality Test, Document Verification and Medical Examination.

The number of vacancies to be filled on the results of the examination is as follows:

Category I: (Posts in the Geological Survey of India, Ministry of Mines)

(i) Geologist Group 'A' 24
(ii) Geophysicist Group 'A' 17
(iii) Chemist Group 'A' 6
Category II: (Posts in the Central Ground Water Board, Ministry of Water Resources) (i) Junior Hydrogeologists (Section B), Group 'A' 23


  • Total no. of 3 Vacancies of Geophysicist (2 for Hearing Impairment and 1 for Locomotor disability or Cerebral Palsy)
  • 1 Vacancy of Chemist for Locomotor disability or Cerebral Palsy
  • 3 Vacancies of Junior Hydrogeologists (Scientist B) Group 'A' [ 1 for Blind  or Low Vision and 1 for Locomotor disability including Cerebral Palsy, Leprosy cured, dwarfism, acid attack victims and muscular dystrophy and 01 for autism, intellectual disability, specific learning disability and mental illness, multiple disabilities from amongst persons under clause (a) to (d) including deaf-blindness]
  • The number of vacancies mentioned above may be altered in the future. Appointments will be made on a temporary basis in the first instance. Reservations will be made for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes and person with benchmark disability categories
