India has more than 150+ private / deemed universities. Most of these universities are run by private bodies / societies. These deemed universities are approved and affililated by University of Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi.
Some of these universities impart excellent quality education and run various programmes approved by foreign universities. Deemed university is a status of autonomy granted by the Department of Higher Education on the advice of the UGC, under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956.
Students tend to opt for private universities, as they provide better quality of education, infrastructure, faculties and placements.
