Which Is Better – MTech In India Or MS In The USA?

With engineering being the national profession, a major chunk of the youth population of the country is not able to think beyond this profession. This leads to most of them pursuing a graduation degree in the same. The degree may either be a BTech or a BE. In either of the case there is a lot of scope of getting a job following the degree.

Talking from the point of view of the sectors that one can work in, the range is as diverse as that of working in multinational corporations to that of start-ups. From a technical point of view, people can work in both core as well as the omnipresent information technology industries.

However, despite the immense scope here, there are people who dream of achieving way more than this. These type of engineers are not satisfied with a simple graduate degree. It is their hunger for knowledge that drives them towards pursuing a master's degree in this field. This is when all sorts of confusion come into play.

MTech In India Or MS In The USA?

The first and foremost decision to make is what super specialisation to opt for. Once that is done there comes the million dollar question of which is better - pursuing an MTech in India or an MS abroad?

To help one make that decision, in this article we have explored some of the advantages of both, so that you will be able to make a conscious decision about which one is better for you.

Advantages Of MTech

• It Is Less Expensive

Basically, both degrees give you a master's degree and teach you the same things academically. However, one of the two degrees actually costs way more than the other. Thus, if you are someone who has to support a family and is looking for financial stability in the near future, then Mtech in India is the right choice for you.

• Importance Of Self-study

The higher education scene in India is such that there is greater amount of importance laid on self-study. This prepares the individual to take up the challenges that their workplace will throw at them in the future. Thus, the higher education scene in India equips the individual with better problem-handling skills as compared to that in the west.

• Process Of Admission

The process of admission here is through GATE alone. But the admission process for an MS in the USA is more extensive. You'll have to write GRE and TOEFL, an SOP and more. There is the VISA process to consider too. So if you haven't planned everything in advance, MTech in India is the better option for you.

Advantages Of MS

• Respect In The Family

If you have a number of friends and family members who are settled abroad then you will be well aware that by studying abroad you are actually accumulating social respect. Pursuing a Master of Science for this same reason is pretty much worth all the effort.

• Better Quality Of Teaching

A master's degree in engineering if pursued in India is of some use if and only if the same is executed under the supervision of an able guide. If your guide is not capable, the entire degree is pretty useless. This is not the same situation abroad. Back there, the quality of teaching is much better and all the hard work the students put in will be worth the degree.

• Lesser Competition

On a positive note, the competition here is much simpler because lesser number of students apply for this course. However, on the negative side the admission course here involves a greater number of steps and being technically sound is not the only criteria to get admission.

One must be equally competent in their linguistics and as a result, it gives students from English-medium schools an edge over the others.
