The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is all set to knock the doors ssoon. The government had decided to conduct JEE Main twice a year in the months of January and April.

As the exam date is approaching, it istime for students to accelerate their preparation. The Physics in the JEE Main is not only an important subject but also the scoring area. Most of us aware of the fact that the syllabus for the Physics is vast and students should devote more time to crack this subject.

Candidates who enrolled in the JEE Main should start their preparation by analysing the previous year's question papers. The preparation strategy for the Physics paper includes important topics, books and key suggestions.

Never Ignore Basics

Never Ignore Basics

Candidates should never ignore the basic concepts in the Physics in order to qualify in the JEE Main, because every topic is equally important. The NCERT books are the best to increase the command over basic concepts.

Important Topics In Section-A

Important Topics In Section-A

There are many topics that are pretty important in the Physics subject. However, the below are believed to be the most important.

  • Be thorough with all the basic concepts of the electrostatics and oscillation and waves.
  • In the modern physics, the radioactive decay of substances, Bohr's model, nuclear fission and fusion, dual nature of matter and X-rays are important.
  • Don't forget to read the Huygen's principles in the optics.
  • In Electromagnetic Induction and AC, be thorough with the Faraday's law.
  • The Ohm's law, colour code for resistors, drift velocity, characteristic of ohmic and nonohmic conductors are important topics in the current electricity.
  • The principles of superposition of waves, Doppler effect, simple harmonic motion are important topics in the waves.
  • Though the above mentioned are very important, never give least importance to the topics such as the physics and measurement, communication system, KTG and gravitation.
  •

    Understand The Weightage

    Understand The Weightage

In the official JEE Main information bulletin, it is clearly mentioned that 20% weightage will be given for the Section-B that contains the Practical Component (Experimental Skills). This clearly says that students should also focus on this area parellelly.

    Important Topics In Section-B

    • Vernier callipers-its use to measure internal and external diameter and depth of the vessel
    • Screw gauge- its use to determine thickness/ diameter of thin sheet/ wire
    • Surface tension of water by capillary rise and effect of detergents
    • Metre scale mass of a given object by principle of moments
    • Simple pendulum-dissipation of energy by plotting a graph between square of amplitude and time
    • Co-efficient of viscosity of a given viscous liquid by measuring the terminal velocity of a given spherical body
    • Refractive index of a glass slab using a travelling microscope
    • Potentiometer- (i) Comparison of emf of two primary cells (ii) Determination of internal resistance of a cell
    • Resistivity of the material of a given wire using metre bridge
    • Characteristic curves of a Zener diode and finding reverse break down voltage
    • Characteristic curves of a p-n junction diode in forward and reverse bias
