NEST 2018 is around the corner. Here are the important topics you need to read during the last phase of your preparations.

The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST), a national-level entrance examination, is conducted for an admission to the 5-year integrated MSc programme at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CEBS), Mumbai. This prestigious entrance exam is conducted for an admission to the 202 and 47 seats at NISER and CEBS respectively.

The selection of the candidates will be based on the computer-based test, which will take place on June 2, 2018. Important Topics In General Section

This is the compulsory section in NEST and marks gained here will help you get a better position overall on the merit list. Though this section intimates many students with lengthy questions, try to attempt all the questions because there is no negative marking. One has to complete this section in less than 20 minutes.

The most important topics in this section are milestones in the fields of biology, mathematics, physics, astronomy, environment and computer science. Make a note of all the recent developments in the scientific field.

Important Topics In Physics

Physics is one of the scoring subjects in the NEST entrance examination. One should master all the topics under electronic devices and kinematics besides oscillation and waves. At least 7 percent weightage is there for the topics in electrostatics, heat and thermodynamics, laws of motion and current electricity.

The atoms and nuclei are also equally important. After mastering the above topics, move on to the electromagnetic induction, dual nature of matter and radiation and motion of planets and satellites.

Important Topics In Chemistry

The most important topics in chemistry are chemical bonding, p-block and periodic table. One can expect more than 20 percent questions from these three topics. If you are strong in the chemical kinetics, solid states, hydrocarbons, aldehydes and ketones and isomerism, you can assume that more than 30 percent marks are in your pocket.

After reading the most important topics, start revising the atomic structure, chemical equilibrium, mole concept, metallurgy and the gaseous state.

Important Topics In Biology

Candidates who are from the science stream usually opt for this as the major subject. And this is vices versa for the students with a mathematics background. The most important topics in the biology are the plant and animal systems. One has to be strong with all the characteristics of the proteins and vitamins.

Devote at least four hours to study the micro and macro nutrients. Never forgot to master the basic concepts in the genetics & evolution and humans & environment. Also read the principles of recombinant DNA technology.

Important Topics In Mathematics

The first and foremost areas to cover are algebra, trigonometry and analytical geometry. The questions from algebra are likely to be asked on the quadratic equations, complex numbers, conjugations and geometric interpretations. Under logarithms and their properties, focus on the permutations and combinations, binomial theorem for positive integral index, transpose of a matrix and Bayes theorem.

While coming to the differential calculus, focus on the composite functions, polynomials and trigonometrics. In integral calculus, fundamental theorems are important. The additions of vectors and geometrical interpretations are important in vectors.
