The NEET entrance examination will be to test your knowledge in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The syllabus of this examination will mainly comprise your Class 11 and Class 12 syllabi.

So what does it take to top the entrance test? Read further to know the success mantras.

Start coaching early

The NEET topper started his coaching 2 years before he took up NEET exam. An early start ensures enough time to study and revise all the necessary topics for the examination.

Spend time studying every day

Studying for 5 to 6 hours everyday at home apart from your regular school and coaching centre is definitely a good thing. Every day revision keeps you in touch with the syllabus and making this your routine will lead you to perfection.

Identify your weak subjects and strong subjects

Gauging your strengths and weaknesses among the pile of syllabus and study materials will give you clarity regarding the tough and the easy subjects.

Once you have finalised on the tough and the easy subjects, focus mostly on your weakness. Work on it, do not let your weakness hamper your strong side. During preparation, allot more time to difficult subjects.

Understanding and memorising

There are a few concepts for which you have to understand the logic behind them and there are a few which you will have to memorise. Bringing in a fine balance between understanding the mechanism and memorising the concept is the key.

Solve the previous years' question papers

In case of NEET you will have just 1 year data. But you can practise by solving question papers of AIPMT examination and other medical entrance exams held across the country.

Covering all the question papers will make you feel less intimidated during the main examination. Solving these old question papers will give you the confidence to face the questions and an upper hand with time management.

Though the question papers for all the medical entrance exams are different, the paper pattern is usually similar. In case of NEET and AIPMT it is more or less the same.

Choosing reference books and study material

During preparation, you will feel all that is related to science under the sky is important for your reference. Do not make your study complicated, choose wisely.

NCERT books are the most valuable according to the toppers. Reference books with similar topics can also be considered for advanced study.

Entrance Exam Strategies - The Success Mantra

To get your basics right and to have a strong foundation study material from the NCERT and some from your coaching centres is definitely the one to go for.

NCERT books, last years' question papers and books from a few publications including Balaji publications, D Mukherjee and SC Verma are available along with the study material from your coaching institute.

Coaching Centres

How significant is coaching? Does everyone need to go to a coaching institute to succeed?

One can crack the exam on one's own but to score a good rank you might need an external help. Coaching centres are not mandatory for cracking medical entrance exams, it is just an added advantage.

Coaching centres are advantageous as they provide you with new study material. They also conduct regular tests which bring in discipline in a candidate to prepare for it. These centres also engage students with experienced faculty and together they help in scoring a good rank in the exam.

Whether you go to a coaching centre or study on your own, being regular is a must. Study discipline, time management, and everything else that matters counts.

Develop your own preparation technique

Just because something worked for Het Shah doesn't guarantee it will work for you too. Everyone is different, jot out your own work strategy. Identify your strong and weak points and overcome your own hindrances. Such is the key to success.

Exam day strategy

And then comes the D-day. It is natural to feel tensed and pressurized on the day of exam. Don't let your emotions get the better of you. Remaining calm and keeping yourself relaxed is the key.

While solving the paper, read the paper for 5 minutes to gauge the difficulty level of the paper and then start solving.

It is wise to solve the theoretical parts first as it gets done faster and keep maximum time for calculations. Calculation parts tend to have a lot of potential for errors and mistakes. Hence, make it a point to cross-check your problems.

Time management

Time makes or breaks. It is crucial to have a strategy to time your exam.

Some may attempt to solve the difficult parts of the question paper first and leave the easier bits to the end. This strategy may sometimes backfire, as you tend to take much of the allotted time to solve, leaving less or no time for the theoretical or easy questions. This will make you loose valuable time and directly hurt your score.

If you find that you are running out of time solving the difficult questions, leave them and go for the easier ones. In the end, with all the time in your hand you can come back to them later.

Make time for formalities

The OMR sheet holds your future, so give it about 10 minutes. Do not be in a hurry or neglect filling your roll number and other formalities in the OMR sheet. A slight mistake and you may never get your score.

Regularity, strong basics, some guidance or help and definitely hard work will guarantee you a chance at cracking the exam.
