Unlock 2 Guidelines: Schools And Colleges To Remain Closed Till July 31

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has released guidelines for phased re-opening (Unlock 2). According to the recent MHA guidelines, schools, colleges and educational institutions will remain closed till July 31. The new rules will come into effect from July 1. Online/ distance learning shall continue to be permitted. The Ministry has granted permission to open the training institutions of the Central and State government from July 15.

The official notice reads, "Schools, Colleges, educational and coaching institutes will remain closed till July 31, 2020. Online/distance learning shall continue to be permitted and shall be encouraged."

It also reads, "Training institutions of the Central and State governments will be allowed to function from July 15 for which standard operating procedure (SOP) will be issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT)."

Schools and educational institutions have remained close since March. The MHA had said in Unlock 1 guidelines that a decision on reopening of schools and colleges will be taken after extensive consultations.

Earlier, CBSE and CISCE have cancelled their remaining board exams scheduled in July and rolled-out new assessment to promote students based on internal assessment. The results will be released in July. However, there is no official announcement yet regarding postponement of the JEE Main and NEET.

Ministry of Home Affairs has framed the new guidelines based on feedback received from States and UTs besides extensive consultations held with related Ministries and Departments.
