The Date for the NEET Exam Announced: Read to Know When

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission of students into undergraduate medical courses will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on May 7.

According to the new rule, it had been decided that candidates could appear in the NEET three times in total and the maximum age limit for candidates attending the exam should not be more than 25 years.

This decision was made by University Grants Commission (UGC) during a meeting in Delhi recently. A candidate can be as young as 17 years of age to be eligible to attend the NEET. For reserved category students, however, the maximum age is stretched up to 30 years.

The minimum age to appear for NEET is 17 years, however, the maximum age is 30 years for the reserved category students. NEET exam will be held across the country in eight different languages. The languages that the exam will be conducted in are Hindi, English, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil and Telugu for the new academic year 2017-18.

According to an official statement from the Union Health Ministry, in December last year, for those candidates who qualify in the NEET, eligibility will be granted for them to acquire the all-India quota and other quotas under the state governments and institutes irrespective of the medium taken by candidates, subject to other eligibility criteria.

Joint Secretary, Medical Education, AK Singhal had said then, "The collaborative efforts of Central Health Ministry with the state health ministries have lead to this decision so as to bring parity for the students who have taken the state board exams."

AIPMT was replaced by NEET has been made compulsory for admissions in all India medical/dental colleges. Due to this common exam, states need not conduct a separate medical exam for entrance.

CBSE also holds the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) exam for admission into engineering colleges and selects students on the basis of their results in the exam.
