Confirming the same, TCS EVP and global HR head Milind Lakkad said, "Our key strategy for building the bottom doesn't change. The 40,000 (in India) might become 35,000 or 45,000 - that's a tactical call we will make."

The move comes at a time when employment situation in the country has turned grim impacting scores of careers. The IT giant had hired almost equal number of freshers in India last year.

The TCS EVP said that nearly 87 per cent of the 40,000 are already active on their learning platform. "Some 8,000 to 11,000 recruits undertake online assessments every week. Over 8,000 fresh recruits completed one or more digital certifications before joining," Lakkad added as reported by Business Today.

The Tech major also mulls doubling the placement numbers in the US through campus hiring at 2,000 which will serve as a major relief to people dependent on H-1B and L-1 work visas.

"We had indicated in the last quarter that lateral would be frozen due to uncertainty but honour all outstanding offers issued," the CEO added.
