The Union government has permitted the reopening of schools across India from 1st February 2021. After witnessing a steady fall in the active coronavirus cases, the offline classes will be resuming in several states for students soon.
After the lockdown was imposed, the schools were shut for over 10 months. Some states have already started physical classes in January, while few states including Delhi, Gujarat, Meghalaya, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir, are set to open schools next month from February. However, the state's ministry has issued COVID-19 guidelines for the schools to follow strictly.
Meanwhile, attendance is not mandatory for the offline classes and it will be necessary to sign a written consent for allowing the students to go to school.
States That Are Reopening Schools In February:
Maharashtra
The state decided to reopen schools for Classes 5 to 8 in both Thane and Pune districts. In Thane, schools are reopening from January 27, while in Pune district; students have to attend schools from February 1. The Municipal Corporations in both districts have issued strict coronavirus guidelines to follow.
Gujarat
The Gujarat State Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama made an announcement to reopen schools for Classes 9 and 11th from February 1. Earlier, schools for Classes 10 and 12, and colleges for final year graduate and post-graduate students reopened in Gujarat which was shut for over nine months due to the pandemic.
Haryana
The Education Department of the Haryana government has decided to reopen schools from the first week of February for Classes 6 to 8.

Bihar
The crisis management department of the state held a meeting on January 30 and decided to resume classes for the students of Classes 6 to 8 from February 8. The Bihar government has issued COVID-19 protocols and detailed operating procedures that need to be followed by the schools.
Telangana
The state is now set to reopen schools for Classes 9 to 12 from February with necessary COVID-19 precautions. Earlier, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had announced the reopening of colleges from February 1.
Himachal Pradesh
The classes for Class 5 and Classes 8 to 12 will be reopening from February 1. Meanwhile, schools that are in hilly areas and have longer winter breaks will resume from February 15.
Jammu and Kashmir
The schools for Classes 10 to 12 will resume from February 1 in the summer zone of the Jammu region. Whereas, the winter zone areas of the Kashmir Division and Jammu Division will start offline classes from February 15.
Karnataka
The state government has decided that the schools will reopen for Classes 9 to 12 from February 1, announced minister S Suresh Kumar.
Delhi
The schools are scheduled to reopen for Classes 9 and 11 from February 5. Earlier, classes for Class 10 and 12 were resumed on January 18 for practical work.
