The government of Himachal Pradesh has planned to reopen the schools in the state from September 27, 2021. The decision regarding this has been made during a cabinet meeting held today in Shimla which was chaired by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur.
The state will reopen schools for students of classes 9th to 12th. Students in classes 10 and 12 are permitted to visit the school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, while classes 9 and 11 are open on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
The government's decision to reopen schools and colleges was dubious, given that the positive rate and daily Covid cases had been steadily increasing in recent months.
The Himachal Pradesh government has shut schools till September 25, 2021.
The positive rate for Covid-19 is 8.5 percent in the Mandi area, 4.4 percent in Hamirpur, 2.6 percent in Kangra, and 2.3 percent in Shimla. These districts were the hardest hit during the first two waves of the pandemic, with the largest number of Covid cases and deaths.
