The District Administration of Pune has announced the closure of all schools and colleges amid a sudden rise in Covid-19 cases. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar held a meeting with other officials to review the Corona situation in Pune city. All the educational institutions including schools, colleges, coaching classes have been ordered to remain closed till February 28, 2021.
Among other restrictions imposed, the hotels, restaurants, and wedding venues will be closed at 11 P.M. There will be restrictions on people's movement as they are not allowed to come out of home between 11 P.M. and 6 A.M. apart from any essential work. To hold any public activities, one will need written permission from the police.
Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry issued a notice of caution to the Maharashtra State government asking for an increase in the number of tests and more RT-PCR tests to keep a proper check on the cases.
Pune had reopened its schools and colleges in January after over 10 months of closure. The teachers and school staffs were asked to undergo the RT-PCR test before joining the school.
The total number of coronavirus cases has reached 3,97,431 including 849 fresh cases in Pune. However, the Uddhav Thackeray government is also of the opinion to impose night curfew but regarding this, the decision will be taken in the next few days.
Earlier, Maharashtra declared lockdown in two districts in Amravati and Yavatmal due to a surge in Covid cases.
